BUDUDA
Bududa District has identified 29.6 kilometers of roads to be rehabilitated using a 1 billion shillings road fund for the 2024/25 financial year.
The roads slated for rehabilitation are 9.6 Kms Bukitongo-Bumakhasi Road located in Buchigayi constituency, 9Kms Bunamwachi-Namayizu Road in Manjiya County and 11Kms Buchigayi-Bukalasi Road located in Lutsekhe County.
Milton Kamoti, the Bududa District LCV Chairperson while speaking to our reporter Monday morning, 24th March, 2025, says the district council and roads committee approved the roads for rehabilitation during last week’s council sitting.
He confirmed that work is expected to commence in March this year.
Kamoti assured the public that the funds will be used effectively, unlike in the previous financial year when funds were misused, resulting in the failure to rehabilitate most planned roads.
The district is urging the government to increase funding, citing the challenging terrain of the area, with 90% of the district being mountainous. This has led to roads being damaged within a month due to the steep terrain.
Residents, such as Paulo Khaukha, have expressed happiness with the development, while others, like Patrick Meru, Secretary for social services also doubling as a councilor representing Bubuti sub-county, urged the public to utilize the rehabilitated roads effectively to transport agricultural products and improve their livelihoods.
