EC Announces Display of National Voters Register Countrywide

The Electoral Commission has today April 25, 2025, announced the display of national voters’ register and registers for special interest groups. The Chairperson  of the electoral Commission said the display of national voters’ register and register for special interest groups will run from today April 25 to May 8, 2025 emphasizing that there will be no extension for those who will miss out during the set period.

 

While addressing reporters at the Commission’s  Head office in Kampala, Justice Simon Byabakama Mugenyi noted that the purpose for display of national voters register is to enable voters check the correctness of their particulars on the voters’ register, check whether the photograph appears against correct particulars on the register, raise objection for inclusion and removal from the voters register and to report to the display officer for removal of those who died, under the age of 18years and those who appear more than once on the voters’ register.

 

He said the display exercise will be conducted on daily basis including weekends from 8am-6pm. He revealed that the total number of polling stations across the country is 38,315.

 

Justice Simon Byabakama Mugenyi revealed that 620 polling stations (1.6% ) will not display voters’ register due to technical problems that occurred during the production of voters register. The affected polling stations are in districts/ cities of Kampala, Wakiso , Mukono, Masaka, Buvuma , Arua city and Fort Portal city among others. He however revealed that display exercise which commenced today constitutes 98.4 % polling stations across the country.

 

Justice Simon Byabakama Mugenyi said the affected areas will be accorded full statutory 21 days for display of the registers and apologized to the stakeholders for the inconvenience caused.

 

He added that the display of national register for the youths, people with disabilities and older persons will also run from April 25 -May 8, 2025.

 

Justice Simon Byabakama Mugenyi stated that for purposes of transparency, the commission will recruit national and international observers to observe the 2026 General Elections. He asked interested organizations to submit their applications in time.

 

He further noted after the verification exercise, the commission will announce the exact number of voters who will participate in the 2026 General Elections. And It’s against this background, that he implored all stakeholders to participate in the display of national voters register.

 

On the creation of new districts from Tororo district, Justice Simon Byabakama Mugenyi said the commission doesn’t act on media reports but will act if it receives official notification or communication from the relevant authority.

 

Lastly Justice Simon Byabakama Mugenyi disclosed that election for LC1, LC2, women council and administrative committees will take place after 2026 General elections. He said the commission has already presented it’s budget to parliament and that funds will be available in the next financial year 2025/2026.
