Thousands of Special Police Constables, (SPCs) are set to lose their jobs in the latest deployment review being undertaken by the Uganda Police Force.
This was revealed by the Police Spokesperson, ACP Kituuma Rusoke today, Monday, 28th April, 2025 while addressing the media at Naguru Police headquarters.
“We are currently reviewing the deployment of Special Police Constables (SPCs) nationwide. SPCs serve on renewable contracts with the Uganda Police Force,” he says.
Kituuma also says that whose services remain necessary will be retained, while contracts will not be renewed for those no longer needed by the UPF.
The spokesperson did not reveal when the axe will fall on the unfortunate ones and the exact number that will be affected.
SPCs are not permanent and pensionable and not employed under the Ministry of Public Service system. They can therefore be sacked or recruited by the IGP or have their contracts not renewed especially for those above 50 years. They are different from Police Constables who are recruited on Ministry of Public Service system.
In 2022, over 50,000 SPCs lost jobs after their contracts were not renewed by the then IGP, Okoth Ogolla.
