UHRC Warns CDF, Gen. Muhoozi over NUP’s Eddy Mutwe Detention

Uganda Human Rights Commission has written to the Chief of Defence Forces, Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba over the continued illegal detention of NUP’s Edward Rogers Sebuufu a.k.a Eddy Mutwe.

The letter written on Friday, 2nd May, 2025 directs Muhoozi to immediately release Eddy Mutwe or be liable for contempt under Article 53(1) of the Constitution of Uganda.

 

UHRC accuses the CDF of unlawfully detaining Eddy Mutwe since 26th April, 2025.

 

“Whereas the commission is satisfied that he is being unlawfully detained or restricted, this is to direct you to cause the immediate release of Edward Rogers Sebuufu from your custody,” reads the UHRC letter in part.

 

The letter signed off by the Commission’s Chairperson, Mariam Wangadya is premised on Article 53(2) (a) of the Constitution of the Republic of Uganda and Rule 31 of the Uganda Human Rights Commission, (Procedure) (Rules.)
