Following the intervention of Uganda Human Rights Commission, NUP President’s Chief body guard, Edward Ssebufu a.k.a Eddy Mutwe has been delivered to Masaka High Court.
Eddy Mutwe who was visibly limping was helped into the Court room by two security operatives today, Monday, 5th May, 2025.
Uganda Human Rights Commission had on Friday, 2nd May, 2025 written to the Chief of Defence Forces, Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba over the continued illegal detention of NUP’s Edward Rogers Sebuufu a.k.a Eddy Mutwe.
The letter directed Muhoozi to immediately release Eddy Mutwe or be liable for contempt under Article 53(1) of the Constitution of Uganda.
The appearance of Eddy Mutwe at court today, is most likely Gen. Muhoozi’s reaction to the UHRC’s warning.
It is not yet known what charges are going to be slapped against Ssebufu who has been under illegal detention since April, 26th 2025.
Eddie Mutwe was reportedly abducted by security operatives from Mukono District on April 26, 2025, but his whereabouts were unknown for days until Muhoozi last week admitted holding him in his basement.
He was dropped at court by security operatives who have barred journalists from getting closer to him or covering his case.
Eddie Mutwe, was later seen being taken away in a prison bus after Masaka High Court remanded him to Masaka Main Prison until May 25, 2025.
