Several people have died in a tragic road accident that occurred around 5:00 PM on May 5, 2025, in Makindu Village along the Kisoga-Nyenga Road in Buikwe District. The accident involved a motor vehicle belonging to YY Coaches, registration number UAV 701C, a Scania bus reportedly driven by an unidentified driver.
According to eyewitnesses at the scene, the YY bus, which was traveling from Katosi towards Mbale, lost control upon reaching Makindu Village. The bus overturned and caught fire, killing and injuring an unknown number of passengers.
Ssezibwa Regional Police spokesperson, SP Hellen Butoto, confirmed the incident. She said two fire trucks from Jinja and Buikwe districts responded to extinguish the fire, while a police ambulance rushed victims to Kawolo Hospital and St. Francis Lwanga Health Center.
Police investigations are ongoing to determine the exact cause of the accident. A detailed report will be released in due course.
