Former Ambassador, Phibby Awere Otaala has adjusted her political ambitions following the recent administrative restructuring of Tororo District.

Initially planning to contest for the Tororo Woman MP seat, Otaala has now set her sights on the newly created Tororo City Woman MP position.

Otaala welcomed the changes, stating that she had long anticipated the creation of Tororo City and was determined to become its first Woman MP.

“This is a long awaited city, we thank the President of Uganda for giving Tororo a city”. She said.

Other political figures have also repositioned themselves in response to the district’s division.

Betty Charia, the Tororo District Speaker, has announced her bid for the Mulanda District Woman MP seat, citing her extensive experience in local governance.

The government’s decision to split Tororo into three new districts and a city has significantly altered the political landscape, prompting several aspirants to reconsider their strategies ahead of the 2026 general elections.

Political analysts believe the restructuring could favor the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM), as it allows leaders to mobilize support more effectively within smaller administrative units.

Some argue that the timing—just a year before the elections—could give the NRM an advantage in securing a higher percentage of votes in the region.
