As the country gears up for the 2025/2026 general elections, the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) on Tuesday, 6th May, 2025 embarked on a nationwide structure electoral process at the village level.
The party elected various leadership structures, including women, youth, disabled, elderly, entrepreneurship, mainstream party leader, workers, and LC1 NRM party flag bearers.
George Oketcho was elected as the publicity secretary for his village of Katerema School zone in West Budama South Mulanda district unopposed; he is also vying for the position of Member of Parliament for West Budama South constituency in the newly created Mulanda District against the incumbent, Dr. Emmanuel Otaala.
In his speech, George Oketcho thanked the people of West Budama South mostly Katerema sub county and Katerema village for trusting him with the position that he will use to preach the gospel of the NRM manifesto to elevate West Budama South.
Oketcho said Mulanda District requires transformational leadership, one that is dedicated, visionary, and capable of uniting its people for progress that is why the people of West Budama South should entrust him as the flag bearer for the position for Member of Parliament for effective representation.
‘’Am open-minded, experienced, tested young and energetic leader to drive West Budam South to industrial and commercial growth,’’ he says.
“It is my firm conviction that the time for change is now. For too long, West Budama South has suffered from a lack of tangible development due to short-sighted leadership that prioritizes personal interests over the future of our children,’’ he adds.
He told this publication that West Budama South is his home, and its people his my people.
“I feel a deep calling to serve and drive meaningful change that will uplift men, women, and youth across the region. With over 18 years of experience working in government, I bring extensive experience in policy-making, governance, and international collaboration,” he adds.
Who is George Oketcho
I am a former public servant with over 15 years in the security sector, and 25 years in entrepreneurship. Am currently the CEO of Wolves Security Group Limited providing over 3000 jobs for the youth and 1800 directly from my District Tororo and West Budama South.
I have a track record in livelihood development through mind set change for the youth, this can be seen through the many jobs created and also encouraging many youth to join the Uganda Police forces, i have directly given jobs to some youth in Factories, and other Private Security organizations including Government organs which has impacted their lives and families.
I am a self-motivated, hardworking, and committed professional who has steadily risen through the ranks in the Security sector due to my dedication, transparency, and honesty. These qualities have enabled me to transition smoothly into politics and policy development in 2024. My vision focuses on key sectors, including health, education, industrialization, business, wealth creation, security, culture and tourism, Agro- business.
I have supported the parish Development Model (Aiding the activity by providing Computer Laptops to ease the process of registration in West Budama South). I have also supported my community by dipping and repairing broken boreholes to improve on water and sanitation.
As a leader, I am ready to take up the role of Member of Parliament for West Budama South to see development and implement the NRM manifesto that my people benefit from Government services.” let’s develop our home, our District”.
