The Entebbe Division ‘A’ LC5 Councilor for Wakiso district, Richard Wamala, suffered a big political blow on May 12, 2025, after he was defeated in the NRM parish party structure elections for Entebbe Central Ward.
Hon. Wamala lost the NRM parish structure elections for the position of General Secretary Mainstream to Jimmy Mutabazi, who has been out of politics for 4years after he lost his councilor seat to NUP’s Charles Kabwama in the 2021 polls.
During the parish party structure elections which involved queuing behind a candidate of one’s choice, Councilor Richard Wamala attracted few supporters while his competitor Jimmy Mutabazi attracted a long line.
The NRM registrar for Entebbe Central Ward, Salongo Kalule declared Jimmy Mutabazi winner of the elections for the Entebbe Central Ward after garnering the largest number of votes.
Mutabazi’s supporters were sent into jubilation scenes while Wamala’s supporters were so frustrated.
Meanwhile, NRM mayoral aspirant Michael Mutebi caused a scene at the polling center after he ferried in NRM voters from Katabi/Busambaga ward to vote for Jimmy Mutabazi yet these very voters had already voted in their ward where they are registered voters.
Those who were identified were later screened out and thrown out of the queue but the unknown ones participated in the voting exercise.
In related news, NRM supporters endorsed Edrisa Figo Matovu and Ex- mayor Steven Kabuye as Entebbe Municipality party spokesman and chairperson respectively.
Voting for party structures at the Sub-county level will resume on Friday this week.
