MBALE DISTRICT
The National Resistance Movement (NRM) has dismissed all petitions against Moses Wambogo and officially declared him the duly elected NRM district chairperson for Mbale. This follows the party elections held on Friday, May 23rd, at the School for the Deaf in Busoba.
Wambogo won the race with a landslide, securing 163 votes against his closest rival, Abdallah Naleka, who garnered only 16 votes. Another contender, Watenyeli, also lost by a wide margin. Naleka and others disputed the outcome, raising concerns about the integrity of the electoral process.
One of the key allegations against Wambogo was that he participated in the elections without formally resigning from his public office.
However, during a reconciliation meeting held on Wednesday afternoon at the NRM headquarters in Kampala, chaired by Dr. Tanga Odoi, the party’s electoral commission dismissed all petitions for lack of sufficient evidence and cleared Wambogo to continue in his new role.
Reacting to the decision, Wambogo welcomed the ruling and called for unity among party members.
“It’s now time to bring everyone together, consolidate our support, and work towards a resounding victory for President Museveni and all NRM leaders in the 2026 elections,” he said. He also urged his former rivals to return and help mobilize for the party.
