TORORO
Tororo District has officially launched its Mass Registration and Renewal of National IDs, kicking off today, Tuesday, 27th May, 2025 at the district headquarters.
The program, spearheaded by district leaders, will soon expand to parishes across the region, ensuring accessibility for all residents.
The initiative aims to rejuvenate the national ID system by updating features to include advanced technology such as iris recognition and QR codes, which will bolster security and streamline the identification process.
Tororo’s Resident District Commissioner, Bategana Bakale Sadiq, emphasized the importance of this initiative, urging citizens to actively participate and take the exercise seriously. “We must work together to ensure the smooth running of this vital program. Those intent on disrupting this process must be warned: we will not tolerate any disorganization,” he stated during the launch.
This extensive registration campaign is set to run until late November 2025, targeting an estimated 15.8 million Ugandans.
The focus will be on individuals whose IDs have expired, as well as first-time registrants, particularly young adults who have recently turned 18. The initiative also caters to those requiring corrections to their existing identification documents.
To facilitate this ambitious rollout, over 5,300 biometric registration kits have been meticulously deployed to sub-counties nationwide, ensuring that the process reaches even the most remote areas.
The government aims to create an inclusive environment where every eligible citizen can access their national ID, a critical tool for identity verification in various aspects of life.
As the exercise unfolds, residents are encouraged to stay informed and participate in this transformative endeavor, which promises to strengthen national identity and support the development of a more secure and organized society.
