In a significant political move, former Tororo North County MP Annet Amella Nyaketcho has been officially nominated to lead the Women’s League for Tororo County political district.
Her nomination comes at a time when the plight of women in the region has reached a critical point, and Nyaketcho is determined to be a voice for the voiceless.
During her acceptance speech, Nyaketcho emphasized the need for strong leadership among women in Tororo County, stating, “The leadership of women has been a sad story. It is high time we have dedicated individuals in positions of power who can effectively lobby for women and elevate their voices to places like State House.” Nyaketcho, who has a reputation as a tested and trusted servant leader, expressed her commitment to addressing the unique challenges that women face in their families and communities.
Her sentiments were echoed by Stella Imukutet, a local women’s advocate, who highlighted the urgent need for peace, love, and unity among women in Tororo County. “For the past 20 years, we have experienced friction among ourselves. It is time we come together for a common cause,” Imukutet urged.
Hellen Emagalent, the outgoing Chairperson of the Women’s League, voiced a strong endorsement for Nyaketcho. “We need to be decisive and take charge of our future without being commanded by corrupt men,” she insisted.
Emagalent stressed the importance of having a capable and resilient leader like Hon. Annet Nyaketcho who can advocate effectively for women’s rights and address pressing issues affecting their lives.
