A shocking incident has unfolded in Jinja City, Uganda, where Amina Mutesi, a senior education officer, has been arrested in connection with the gruesome murder of a 26-year-old woman in a suspected ritual sacrifice.
The incident occurred at Bukaya in Njeru Municipality, Buikwe district, and has sent shockwaves through the region.
According to the Kiira Regional police publicist SP James Mubi, Amina Mutesi, believed to be in her mid-40s, allegedly approached a casual worker from her home with a sinister proposal – to provide a human being for ritual sacrifice in exchange for 3 million Uganda shillings.
The worker, enticed by the hefty sum of money, approached another accomplice, and together they lured the victim from Masese to Mutesi’s home, where she was allegedly strangled to death and buried on the premises.
It’s suspected that Amina Mutesi’s alleged involvement in the ritual sacrifice may have been motivated by desperation to save her job and reputation.
The investigation into Mutesi’s alleged involvement in the ritual sacrifice has uncovered a complex web of motives, including desperation, job insecurity, and potential corruption charges.
According to multiple sources from Jinja Town Hall, Amina Mutesi had been facing months of suspension, and consequently her position was given to another officer, Paul Baliraine, with her being demoted to second-in-command.
This possible motive suggests that Mutesi may have felt cornered and willing to do whatever it took to regain her former status and influence.
Additionally, she may have been trying to ward off corruption-related accusations by the State House Anti-Corruption Unit, led by Brig Henry Isoke.
The State House Anti-Corruption Unit has been cracking down on corruption in various government agencies, and Mutesi may have felt that she was in the unit’s crosshairs. If true, her alleged actions would be a desperate attempt to protect herself and her career.
Jessica Mutesi, 26 was overjoyed when she received news of a potential domestic work opportunity. Eager to improve her situation, she quickly made her way to the home of Amina Mutesi, a former class teacher and education boss, this decision would prove fatal.

SP Mubi says police investigation revealed that the victim’s family had reported a case of kidnapping, and officers had been tracking the suspects, leading to their eventual arrest on Wednesday, 4th June, 2025.
The suspects, who have been apprehended, claim they were promised Shs 3 million for their role in the murder but were only paid Shs 500,000, leading to a demand for the remaining balance.
As news of once a respectable Amina Mutesi’s involvement spread, many are left questioning how someone perceived as “quiet, nice, and magnanimous” could be capable of such a heinous crime.
The incident serves as a jarring wake-up call that crime knows no person, and even those in positions of authority or with seemingly kind faces can harbor dark secrets.
Jinja police are currently handing over the suspects to Njeru police for further management, as the alleged murder falls under their jurisdiction. The police are also seeking a court order to exhume the victim’s remains for forensic DNA analysis to gather more evidence.
This case highlights the dark reality of human sacrifice in Uganda, where some people believe that such acts can bring good luck, promotion at workplaces, and wealth.
Human sacrifice and child sacrifice are criminal offenses of a capital nature and fetch heavy penalties upon conviction. All cultures and religious organizations abhor human sacrifice because life is considered a sacred matter that only God has power over.
