Market vendors plying businesses in Kitooro market have demanded the Entebbe Division ‘B’ LC3 chairperson, Richard Sekyondo, to explain the uncollected heaps of garbage around their market.
The aggrieved market vendors lost cool on Saturday June 7, 2025 and decided to dump heaps of garbage in the road leading to the Division ‘B’ offices. They say though their Division Chairperson introduced a clean-up program dubbed “Weyonje”, to them this program seems not to help them since it addresses the issue of garbage at homestead level.
The market vendors say they pay taxes to council but unfortunately they don’t see value for the taxpayers’ money. They argue that since council has failed to collect garbage from Kitooro market, then the task should be given to a private company.
However, when we approached the Division ‘B’ Chairperson Richard Sekyondo for a comment on phone, he said the garbage truck had broken down but fortunately it has been fixed adding that so far garbage at Kitooro market has been removed and only remaining with garbage along Kitooro road.
He also revealed that Nkumba dumpsite-the gazzeted dumpsite for Entebbe Municipal Council, is almost full adding that in most cases, the garbage trucks are forced to dump garbage in Namiro swamp hence degrading the environment.
