SIRONKO
The Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) party leaders in Sironko district have expressed concerns over the large number of candidates vying for the party’s flag bearer positions, particularly in the Budadiri West constituency.
Seven candidates have expressed interest in replacing Nandala Mafabi, the incumbent legislator for Budadiri West, who has confirmed his intention to contest for the presidency in the 2026 general elections.
The aspirants include Jackson Magombe, Richard Kabala, Reuben Gamasho, Sharif Makwasi, Amos Mugembe, Godfrey Wanyoto, and Ayub Wanzala.
For the district woman Member of Parliament position, two candidates have emerged: Phiona Nafuna and Robbin Wamanga.
In Budadiri East constituency, only Isaiah Sasaga has shown interest, while for the district LC5 chairperson position, Francis Manyaku and Livingstone Giluli are vying for the spot according to Moses Wakoka the district party registrar.
Patrick Wanyaye, the Sironko district FDC party chairperson, noted that nominations for Members of Parliament and LC5 chairperson commenced on Monday, 9th June, 2025 countrywide at district levels.
He added that the party will engage in one-on-one discussions to potentially reduce the number of candidates, especially in Budadiri West constituency, to prevent splitting the vote and inadvertently handing victory to the National Resistance Movement (NRM) party.
Francis Manyaku, one of the aspirants for the district LC5 chairperson position, emphasized the need for the party to conduct a neutral and fair process, ensuring that losers can support the winners to avoid NRM candidates taking advantage of divisions within the party.
