MBALE DISTRICT
Muhamood Masaba Mutenyo, the Mbale district National Resistance Movement (NRM) party chairperson, has officially handed over office to the newly elected chairperson, Moses Wambogo.
This development comes after Masaba initially threatened not to handover due to alleged irregularities in the recent party elections.
Masaba had served as the NRM party chairperson for Mbale district since 2006, and after the district split into Mbale city in 2020, he continued to lead the party in the district.
However, in the recent party elections, Masaba received zero votes, on the position of district NRM secretary for finance losing to Philimon Washipukhu. This outcome seemingly left Masaba disgruntled with some party leaders.
During the handover ceremony at the Mbale district NRM party office located at Bungokho Sub County, on Tuesday, 10th June, 2025, Masaba advised the new leadership to ensure free and fair elections in the upcoming parliamentary and lower elections. He also urged Moses Wambongo to foster trust among party members and mobilize more funds for the party.
Masaba pledged to continue working with the new leadership and support the party’s efforts to secure votes for the president, aiming for a 90% win in the general elections.
In response, Wambogo called on the former leaders to put aside past differences and work together to build the party and garner support for the President in Mbale district.
