The National Resistance Movement (NRM) Party’s Electoral Commission is at crossroads with Candidates who have showed interest in contesting for the three newly created Administrative Units in Tororo district.

Government recently okayed the creation of Tororo City, Mukujju District and a third one yet to get a name in order to end the tribal impasse between the Japadhola and Iteso over the ownership of Tororo Municipality.

Subsequently, politicians have re-aligned their areas of representation. However, the formal processes of creation of the new units have not been concluded, a situation that has left NRM EC’s Tanga Odoi scratching his head.

Dr. Tanga Odoi now doesn’t know what to do with Candidates who will soon be thronging his office to pick nomination forms for the newly created Administrative Units.

To seek guidance, Tanga has written to the President in a letter dated 11th June, 2025 titled, “REQUEST FOR GUIDANCE ON TORORO’S NEW ADMINISTRATIVE UNITS & CANDIDATES’ NOMINATION PROCESS.”

Odoi says that whereas nominations for Candidates to contest in Party Primaries commence on 17th June, 2025, the Commission does not know how to proceed with Tororo Candidates’ nomination because the entire process of creation of new Administrative Units is yet to be completed.

A feedback from the President is yet to be received, however, for this process to be finalized, Parliament must have to sit and pass a BILL yet to be presented to the House by the Ministry of Local Government.
