Police Name 5 Suspects in Murder of Compassion International Employee, Wayengera

Police has released the identities of men suspected of killing Wayengera Godfrey, an employee of Compassion International on June 9, 2025.

 

Mr. Wayengera Godfrey, a Senior Manager of Business Support at Compassion International, an NGO, was intercepted along with his wife, Christine Najjabi while travelling from Mbale to Kampala.

 

The two were attacked by a group dressed in military attire. Godfrey was murder and his body dumped in Namulira Village, Mukono District.

 

Addressing the media on Monday, 21st July, 2025, Police Spokesperson, ACP Rusoke Kituuma said a joint investigation by the Police and sister security agencies has made significant progress.

 

“So far, five (05) suspects have been arrested during ongoing operations, and we have recovered one SAR rifle along with military and police uniforms,” he said.

 

He identified the five suspects as; Tumusiime Ashraf alias Obadiah (40), residing in Kireka, who was arrested at Ku Sattu, Kayunga Road, Mukono.

 

Ssenteza Mike (40), from Wakiso, arrested at Busawuli Ward, Wakiso District.

 

Kasolo Fahad (30), resident of Nabweru and Kireka, arrested on Kamuli Road, Kireka.

 

Sgt. Mwesige Muhammad alias Jet Lee / Munamakerere (50), an army deserter from Kagugube, arrested in Wandegeya.

 

An army officer, Cpl Mugabe Borban Aspa, and resident of Kagugube, also arrested in Wandegeya.

 

Preliminary findings indicate that the suspects belong to a criminal gang targeting traders and travellers along Katosi Road in Mukono.

 

The Gunmen dressed in military uniform kidnapped and killed Wayengera before dumping his body by the roadside near a railway line in Namumira village, Mukono Central Division.

 

 

Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson Patrick Onyango said the attackers abducted Wayengera and his wife, Najabi Christine, while they were returning from a burial in Mbale. The suspects, dressed in UPDF-like uniforms, claimed they were escorting the couple to Mukono Police Station. Instead, they took them to Kyungu Road, where they killed Wayengera.

 

They later dumped his wife in Jinja Misindye, Goma Division. Good Samaritans rescued Najabi and took her to Mukono General Hospital, where she is currently receiving treatment. Police responded quickly, recorded witness statements, and transferred Wayengera’s body to Mulago City Mortuary for a postmortem.

 

They also recovered the couple’s vehicle, a Toyota Fielder registration number UBP 520A, from Jinja Misindye.
