Members of the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) in Namisindwa district have today Monday, 21st July, 2025 threatened to leave the party unless their current chairperson, Patrick Namanda, resigns.
They cite Namanda’s incompetence and failure to grow the party in the district as reasons for their discontent.
Medandi Mulumeti, an FDC member from Bukhaweka town council, expressed frustration over Namanda’s inability to mobilize support for the party in areas where it is not well-known.
Mulumeti also accused Namanda of creating conflicts with party members, including former MP flag bearer Stephen Mulyalya, allegedly to weaken the party.
Timothy Wameyo, another party member, expressed discontent over Namanda’s decision to support and front Stephen Mwelu for the Namisindwa County MP seat, despite Mwelu’s recent defection from the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM).
Wameyo questioned the wisdom of giving the FDC flag to Mwelu, who still possesses an NRM party card, over Mulyalya, who has worked tirelessly for the party in the district for 20 years.
Mulyalya echoed Wameyo’s concerns, stating that it would have been more prudent to groom Mwelu for future leadership roles before awarding him the FDC flag.
Mulyalya and other party members have given Namanda an ultimatum: resign peacefully or face the possibility of them leaving the party to join other political parties.
However ,Namanda acknowledged Mwelu’s recent crossing from NRM but emphasized that acquiring new members should be celebrated rather than criticized.
He noted that the nomination process for FDC positions is ongoing and urged party members to focus on gathering and mobilizing support for the party rather than accusing him of failure.
Namanda also challenged Mulyalya, suggesting that his criticism stems from failing to fill candidate positions and mobilize support for the party.
