The Youth wing of the Opposition Democratic Party-DP, the Uganda Young Democrats -UYD have stormed the Electoral Commission offices demanding answers over the several petitions that were submitted earlier by DP members concerning the Mbarara Delegates Conference.
The group led by the former UYD president who also contested on the position of party’s secretary general, Ismael Kirya was however blocked today, Tuesday, 22nd July, 2025 by security to meet the EC chairman, Justice Simon Byabakama.
Speaking to the media before accessing the EC entrance where they have been blocked, Kirya noted that the seven days ultimatum that was issued to Justice Byabakama to respond to over eight petitions that were submitted by agrieved party members was not honored.
Among the petitions is that of the presidential aspirants including, Dr. Lulume Bayiga who recently detected to PFF, and Eng. Richard Sebamala who petitioned EC seeking the halting of the party’s National Delegates Conference citing forgeries in the names of the Delegates who were supposed to vote, they also complained about the external influence that aimed at favoring the incumbent president, Norbert Mao.
Meanwhile, after the dramatic Delegates Conference in Mbarara, other party members also submitted different petitions to EC over the irregularities that marred the Delegates Conference.
