Teso Fronasa veterans in Amus Parish, Kwari Kwari sub county in Bukedea district have today, Monday, 21st July, 2025 completed a three-day training on modern agricultural practices on grazing and pasture management for cattle.
The training, aimed at transitioning farming from subsistence to commercial levels, was organized by Dr. Tom Gitabani, a member and a technical person of the Teso Fronasa Veterans Farmers’ cooperative society, who enlisted experts from the Animal production and Management.
The Bukedea Fronasa Farmers’ Cooperative Society, was established to enhance the capacity of Fronasa Veterans Farmers to promote agricultural transformation, which was initiated under President Yoweri Museveni’s directive.
Mustàfa Adukani, the chairperson of Bukedea Fronasa Farmers cooperative Society from Bukedea Centre, recognized the center’s impact and invited experts to equip his members with improved farming techniques and a new approach to agriculture.
During the training, Dr. Gitabani Tom, an instructor specializing in livestock farming, attributed poverty among the Iteso community to reliance on traditional farming methods.
He noted that keeping low-yielding local cattle breeds limits farmers’ income potential.
“Mindset change is critical. Farmers must embrace improved livestock breeds and modern farming techniques to boost productivity and household incomes,” he said.
Mustafa Adukani, acknowledged the economic hardships faced by his cooperative society but expressed optimism that the training had inspired a shift towards agri- grazing and pasture management for cattle.
“This training has opened our minds to think bigger. We now see the potential in agrigrazing and are ready to transition from small-scale farming to commercial ventures,” Mustafa Adukani said.
With the rainy season, the training is expected to have a lasting impact, encouraging more farmers in Bukedea and the greater Teso region to adopt modern agricultural practices for improved food security and economic stability.
