Geofrey Omolo, a former FDC member and current LCV chairperson for Katakwi District, has won the Katakwi LCV National Resistance Movement party flag, defeating his close challenger Martin Odaka Omedo by 68 votes.
Omolo won by a slim margin, after getting 46, 647 votes (50%) to Martine Odaka Omedo’s 46, 579 votes (50%) out of a total vote of 93, 226 (100%).
Both Omolo and Odaka were FDC party members, but in 2025, they officially joined the NRM ruling party.
James Otilem, National Resistance Movement NRM, returning officer for the NRM party primaries, electoral commission declared Geofrey Omolo winner at around 8: 22 PM Thursday, 24th July, 2025 at the district headquarters tally center.
Omolo became the LCV district chairperson in 2021 after serving as LCIII for Getom Sub County. However, he promised more effective leadership and claimed that, despite the NRM party’s campaigns being smeared with propaganda about not creating Toroma District, it is fourth on his manifesto for the next term as he follows creation of Toroma District.
He praised Katakwi voters for their faith in the NRM flag, emphasizing that as council members, they are committed to the creation of Toroma District once the Moratorium on new administrative units is lifted.
He urged all voters to continue to trust him throughout the general election, as they advocate for more effective service delivery under his leadership while supporting the NRM party ideology.
Meanwhile, shortly after being approached by the media, Martine Odaka Omedo declined to comment, expressing unhappiness with the results.
Vincent Savior Okwi, Deputy RDC of Katakwi District, praised the peaceful voting process while emphasizing the importance of residents embracing peace and unity for the district’s development.
