Dr. Flight Captain Mike Mukula, the National Resistance Movement (NRM) Vice Chairperson for Eastern Uganda, has commenced a high-stakes tour across the Teso sub-region aimed at reinforcing his position ahead of the party’s internal elections.

In a strong show of support, NRM delegates from Soroti City, Soroti District, and Serere turned up in large numbers to receive Capt. Mukula, reaffirming their confidence in his leadership. The warm reception and collective voices of the delegates unmistakably signaled their approval for his continued role as the NRM’s Eastern Region flagbearer at the Central Executive Committee (CEC).

Addressing delegates in two separate engagements in Soroti, Mukula gave a passionate, heartrendering account of his journey with the Movement—one marked by unwavering service, sacrifice, and ideological loyalty.

“You cannot grow when you are divided. I want you to stand as one. If this division continues, I would rather step aside than lead a divided house,” he cautioned, urging unity and ideological clarity within the party’s Teso and Eastern Region ranks.

Mukula delved into the pressing issues affecting the region, including youth unemployment, poor service delivery, and corruption, emphasizing that such challenges must be urgently addressed by the party’s leadership.

“Out of 47 million Ugandans, over 80% are youth. But many of them are unemployed. We must create equal opportunities. This is one of the biggest tasks before us,” he emphasized.

He clarified that his pursuit of re-election is not driven by personal ambition, but a sense of responsibility to influence policy at the party’s core.

“Being in the Central Executive Committee is not like being a minister. You are not given an office, not even fuel—except facilitation to attend critical meetings. But this is where the direction and policy of the party are shaped,” he said.

He also stressed the importance of the upcoming National Conference, where the party is expected to decide on key strategic matters, including naming the presidential candidate for 2026.

“This conference will chart our roadmap not just for 2026, but for the future beyond. We must be clear about succession. Success without succession is failure. We need sober and experienced minds to help the President guide this country.”

Mukula further called on delegates to continue supporting government initiatives such as the Parish Development Model, stressing the need for these interventions to reach grassroots communities.

“At the macro level, Uganda is stable. But at the micro level, people are hurting. That’s why we must work with our RDCs and party structures to ensure these programs reach the people.”

In conclusion, Mukula urged delegates to evaluate him not by political promises, but by his enduring track record of service and dedication to the Movement.

“I have walked with this party through the storms and sunshine. I have never betrayed the struggle. I seek your trust again, not for personal glory, but to continue serving and building the future of our region and our country.”
