The Lwemiyaga County MP, Hon Theodore Ssekikubo has quit the NRM Party that saw him stay in Parliament for the last 20 years.

In an X Statement posted today, Wednesday, August 20, 2025, Ssekikubo says he has quit because of the stupidity shown by both the NRM Electoral Commission and the Elections Tribunal.

On Tuesday, 19th August, 2025, the NRM Elections Tribunal confirmed Brigadier General (Rtd) Emmanuel Rwashande as its official flag bearer for Lwemiyaga Constituency, following a dispute over the party’s primary elections.

The party’s Election Disputes Tribunal dismissed the petition whereby incumbent MP Theodore Ssekikubo, had challenged the results, citing alleged voter intimidation, irregularities, and mishandling of ballots at some polling stations.

In its ruling, the tribunal said the primaries were conducted in line with NRM electoral rules and that the complaints raised did not significantly affect the outcome. It declared Rwashande’s victory valid, clearing him to represent the party in the 2026 general elections.

Now Ssekikubo says that even as he consults his people, he knows NRM is not his Party.

“They have pushed me to the edge. And am going to sit with my people to forge a way forward,” says Ssekikubo.
