A section of Inzu Yamasaba elders have stirred up a debate regarding the expiry of Umukuka III’s term of office arguing that his term of office expires in 2025.

This group including former Inzu Yamasaba Speaker, Nelson Wedayila and Masaka Resident City Commissioner, Ahamada Washakie, have been advocating for Mudoma’s removal, claiming his term, which they believe started in 2020, is ending this year.

However, Steven Masiga, spokesperson for Inzu Yamasaba, speaking to the Media on Friday, 22nd August, 2025 dismissed these claims, describing the group as individuals with personal interests.

Masiga explained that Mudoma’s term of office is counted from 2023, following government intervention that resolved a dispute over Mudoma’s election and gazetted him.

He says that although Mudoma was elected in 2020, he had serious battles with his revival Amuram Wagabyalile who purported to be the rightfully elected Umukuka.

Masiga adds the war ended in 2023 after government’s intervention before gazetting Mudoma implying that his term of office officially started in 2023.

Masiga urged the Bamasaba community to disregard the reports and assured them that Umukuka Mudoma will remain in office until his term officially ends.

He emphasized that the institution will follow due process in determining the next steps for the Umukuka’s office.

Every five years Inzu yamasaba elects new Umukuka and it’s rotational among the three clans of Mwambu, Mubuya and Wanale.
