FULL LIST: Electoral Commission Clears 27 Political Parties to Participate in 2026 Elections

The Electoral Commission (EC) on Tuesday, 26th August, 2025 published the official register of all political parties legally recognized in Uganda, setting the stage for the 2026 general elections.

 

The register, released in accordance with the Political Parties and Organisations Act, confirms the entities duly cleared to operate and field candidates.

 

The EC emphasized that only organizations on this list are authorized to carry out political activities, underscoring the need for compliance with legal requirements such as updated offices, leadership structures, and official contacts.

 

According to the register, the following political parties are duly recognized in Uganda:

National Resistance Movement (NRM), People’s Progressive Party (PPP), Forum for Integrity in Leadership (FIL), and Republican Women and Youth Party (RWYP).

 

Others are; National Peasants’ Party (NPP), Uganda Economic Party (UEP), Forum for Democratic Change (FDC), Conservative Party (CP), National Unity Platform (NUP), Ecological Party of Uganda (EPU), and National Convention for Democracy (NCD).

 

The EC also recognizes the Liberal Democratic Transparency (LDT), Uganda People’s Congress (UPC), Justice Forum (JEEMA), Social Democratic Party (SDP), Uganda Patriotic Movement (UPM), Democratic Party (DP), National Economic Empowerment Dialogue (NEED) – formerly People’s United Movement (PUM), Society for Peace and Development (SPD), and People’s Development Party (PDP), Congress Service Volunteers Organisation (COSEVO).

 

Among the cleared parties are Activist Party (AP), Democratic Front – formerly Green Partisan Party (GPP), Uganda Federal Alliance (UFA), Revolutionary People’s Party (RPP), Alliance for National Transformation (ANT) and People’s Front for Freedom (PFF).

 

The Electoral Commission’s register also provides detailed contacts, official addresses, and leadership particulars for each of the above parties to ensure transparency and accountability in their operations.
