The cattle restocking committee for the commencement of the presidential directive to consult on mass cattle restocking for Teso has today, Tuesday, September 2, 2025, been formed and commissioned to conduct the process.
On August 15, 2025, H.E. President Yoweri Museveni held a conference at Soroti University with the participation of various leaders in Teso to discuss cattle compensation. Following clear indications of dissatisfaction by members in the cattle compensation process, HE president directed VP Alupo to form and chair a committee for consultation on the mode of cattle restocking.
Among the committee members instituted by H.e VP Jessica Alupo are Chairperson of LCVs Teso, Stephen Ocola, Stephen Ilemukorit representative of Teso RDCs, Diso Katakwi Coordinator for program, NRM Teso Mobilizer, Teddy Acam member, Minister for Teso Affairs Dr. Kenneth Ongalo Obote, Members of Parliament for Teso, Representative from Attorney General’s Office, Religious Leaders represented by Dr. Bishop Emeritus Charles Bernard Ebitu, Bishop of Church of Uganda, and cultural leaders that will later interact with various groups of people.
The committee will hold marathon meetings with various groups of people, including Boda-Boda riders, leaders from the ICU, leaders from Won-Ateker, religious leaders under their umbrella, and local government officials such as LCV, district councilors, and LCIII of the Teso sub-region.
Her Excellency Rtd. Maj. Jessca Rose Alupo Epel, who chairs the committee, formed it this morning, Tuesday, September 2, 2025, in Eneku Village, Soroti City, noting that it will assist in carrying out the presidential directive to consult collectively without complaints.
Alupo stated that the committee will also meet with the petitioners in order to gather their perspectives, as the NRM administration thinks that all people’s perspectives are valid.
The Vice President also met with the media fraternity to raise awareness among the populace noting that the procedures for consulting the people are a joint obligation, and she asked stakeholders to welcome and support the process in Teso subregion without sabotage.
The vice president urged the Teso region to embrace unity and listen to one another in order to ensure the successful implementation of the Teso livestock restocking process proposal to pay every home, as well as other government livelihood programs of wealth and employment creation to lift people out of poverty.
