KAPELEBYONG
Local authorities have evicted the nomadic cattle keepers commonly known as Balaalo from their district.
The eviction that took place on Friday, 5th September, 2025 was spearheaded by Hon. Francis Akorikin, the Chairperson LCV Kapelebyong.
This eviction follows a public outcry by community members who accuse the Balaalo of leaving their herds to destroy their crop gardens.
Akorikin warns other Balaalo still in hiding to vacate Teso land who infiltrated the area from Otuke district in Northern Uganda without authorization.
The most affected was Alito Sub County in Kapelebyong district where Balalo cattle destroyed cassava gardens in the villages of Ogwotai A, Ogwatai B, and Alito in Akileng parish.
Earlier this week, residents who met their LCV Chairperson accused some area residents that include Acak Emmanuel of Alito central, Obuwa David also of Alito Central, Ecoru Nathan Ogwotai A, Imageso clan, Ibua, and Amuge Faith of Oringoi village for inviting the Balaalo.
Ecoru is said to have hired off his 15 gardens to the Balaalo at a fee of Shs 1.5 million to settle and graze in their land.
