‎Residents of Nalondo and Sibanga sub-counties in Manafwa District have endured nearly 10 years of hardship following the collapse of a key bridge connecting the two communities.

‎Locals, including Martin Wakhasa, Wamimbi Joshua Kaboole, and Bernard Wambulyanga, say the bridge’s collapse crippled business activities and restricted access to essential services such as healthcare and markets. For years, residents have had to take long detours or risk dangerous crossings to reach the other sub-county, greatly affecting trade and livelihoods.

‎In a bid to end the long-standing challenge, community members recently mobilized resources to restore the bridge. The initiative, spearheaded by Manafwa District LC V Chairperson Kigai Hosea Kimono, brought together residents and local leaders to raise funds for the repair.

‎Kigai explained that the district had no budget provision for the project, prompting him to personally contribute and lobby for additional support. He commended the community for their unity and determination, noting that the bridge will be vital in restoring economic activity and improving service delivery.

‎Repair works are already underway and are expected to be completed within two weeks, offering long-awaited relief to the affected residents.
