A man in Katakwi suspected to be mentally dreranged due to an addiction to marijuana has killed his biological mother and grandfather and two minors, a four-year-old and seven-year-old girl children.
The incident happened in Akore village, Okuda parish, Ongongonja Sub County, Katakwi district on Friday night, 5th September, 2025 between 8:00 to 09:00 pm by the time it was raining.
The deceased have been identified as Muzei Gerald Okure A.k.a Olemucut, 80 year old grandfather, Christine Atim about 54 years mother to the suspect and two minors Martha Akiteng a child of about 7 years and Josephine Agwang four years.
Agnes Aanyu, wife to Emmanuel Oucul was rushed to Katakwi General Hospital and later referred to Soroti referral Hospital with head cut injury.
Simon Peter Ongede, clan head of Ikorinyanga clan says the suspect is alleged to be mentally disturbed because he is a marijuana drug addict and is identified as Emmanuel Oucul, a resident of the same area who used a pestle and Hoe for killing his relatives.
Katakwi leaders have condemned the act as barbaric. Geoffrey Omolo, LCV Katakwi district confirmed that the suspect used the hoe and mortar pestle (Arukit) for killing the family members.
Stephen Okure Ilemukorit, RDC Katakwi says the murder cases are becoming common in Katakwi, noting that the previous day, again one boy was stabbed with knives in Usuk over girlfriend.
He cautioned youth against drug abuse of narcotic drugs since it leads to health disorders.
