The National Unity Platform Woman Member of Parliament Aspirant for Kampala district, Winifred Nakandi has officially announced her withdraw from the race for the party flag ahead of the 2026 General Election citing irregularities in the just concluded party’s vetting process for local government candidates.
Addressing gathered reporters in Kampala on September 12, 2025, Nakandi claimed that the party’s harmonization process only favours their preferred candidates but not based on merit.
“My decision is uncomfortable, it is painful, it is undesirable, but it is necessary. Having witnessed all the events that unfolded in the process of issuing party flags to candidates for local government posts like LC3 and LC5 councillors, it is imperative that we recognize the loopholes in the system and I don’t wish to benefit from them,” Hon. Nakandi explained.
She added that : “It would be hypocritical for us to know these things, look at these irregularities in our system and we wait to benefit from them. That’s why today I’ve decided to withdraw my interest in the NUP flag for Kampala woman MP.
Nakandi, who was competing for the party ticket alongside incumbent Shamim Malende, Zahara Luyirika, and Agnes Namagembe said she will announce her next political move as soon as she makes a decision
