BUTALEJA

The Chief Administrative Officer for Butaleja district, Mike Yoga, has asked teachers of Butaleja district to stop their strike and go back to class or face serious punishment.

While speaking to the media today Tuesday, 16th September, 2025, Mr. Yoga, said that ignoring learners in Third term is suicidal given the fact that it’s a short program and yet the candidates compete with several others in stable schools in the same examinations.

He okayed the demands for salary enhancement but reminded the teachers that they are also parents, who need not to frustrate the children and the government.

The CAO directed the District Education Office to visit all the schools across Butaleja district to ascertain the action to be taken in response to the Industrial Action.

However, Yokosan Higenyi, the district chairperson for Uganda National Teachers Union (UNATU), Butaleja branch, has encouraged the teachers to maintain their strike saying the CAO should stop threatening teachers for demanding salary enhancement, decrying that they were promised since 2022.
