Police in Mbale city is currently holding two yet to be identified men who were caught red-handed trying to con an old man who had come to withdraw big sum of money from Centenary Bank Mbale Branch on Friday, 19th September with fake dollars.
According to Annet Nandelenga, the Centenary Bank manager Mbale Branch, these two men are tricksters who trick unsuspecting clients with fake dollars and defraud them of their hard earned money.
“We know their behavior, so staff were closely watching the persons who enter the Bank but take too long to transact and keep talking to clients,” Manager Nandelenga said.
She says the two were targeting some old man whom they knew had come to withdraw some reasonable amount of money.
“The moment our staff saw them surrounding the client and both engaging him, we bounced on them,” Nandelenga says.
The two were later taken to Mbale central police station where they are being kept as police continue with its investigations.
Attempts to get a comment from Rogers Taitika, the Elgon region police spokesperson was futile by press time after saying he had not yet been briefed by the CID or DPC.
