Tororo Municipal Council Ratifies Elevation of Municipality to City Status

Tororo municipal council has passed a resolution supporting the elevation of Tororo municipality to a city status.

 

The motion for the elevation was tabled by the Kasoli parish councilor Muhamed Woniaye on Wednesday, 24th September, 2025 and was quickly seconded by the Nyangole parish councilor, Oyaat Odoch

 

While tabling the motion, Woniaye said that the elevation of Tororo municipality to a city status will come with several developments in the areas of infrastructure, solid waste management, education, health among other areas

 

He asked the people of Tororo municipality to start preparing themselves to tap the opportunities that come with a city.

 

To Oyaat, Tororo municipality has the potential to grow and elevating it to a city status will catalyze the growth.

 

He expects business to start booming in Tororo town due to the vast opportunities that will be created by the city.

 

The resolution will be supported by the executive committee resolution that was made on the 23rd September 2025 equally supporting the elevation of Tororo municipality to a city status.

 

Tororo Municipality Mayor, Kenneth Orono Nyapidi believes that the elevation of Tororo municipality to a city will help to diffuse the unnecessary tribal wars in the municipality.

 

Yesterday’s order saw municipal council hold one of the shortest but peaceful councils in the recent past.
