A 24-year old man plus two minors have been remanded to Luzira prisons by Buganda Road Court Chief Magistrate, Ronald Kayizi over allegations of impersonating businessman, Hamis Kiggundu with intent to defraud people on fake social media accounts.
While in the court dock on October 6, 2025, the prime suspect identified as Master Don Sharif and the two minors aged 16 and 17, denied the charges related to online impersonation and fraud. The Chief Magistrate remanded Sharif to Luzira Prison while the minors were remanded to Naguru Juvenile remand home till October 20, 2025.
The trio is accused of running a web of fraudulent accounts on TikTok, Facebook, and WhatsApp, feigning as Dr. Kiggundu and representatives of the Ham Group of Companies.
They allegedly lured their victims with fake promises of employment, youth loans, educational sponsorships, and financial aid through which they allegedly obtained millions of shillings from unsuspecting members of the public.
Preliminary investigations revealed that all three suspects are residents of Iganga District in the Busoga sub-region, which police say has become a growing hotspot for cybercrime and online impersonation.
The Ham Group Public Relations Officer, Karim Sserugo urged the public to remain vigilant and report unscrupulous people using the Businessman’s names to scam the public.
“We want to categorically state that Dr. Hamis Kiggundu and the Ham Group of Companies do not operate any job recruitment drives, loan schemes, or school fees support programs. Anyone making such claims is a fraudster. We urge the public to verify information only through our official platforms,” Sserugo warned the general public.
The trio will return to court on 20th October, 2025, when their case will come up for further hearing.
