SIRONKO: Two Bush Lawyers On The Run for Assaulting LC1 Chairperson

Police in Sironko district are currently hunting for two bush lawyers who assaulted a Local Council one Chairperson.

 

On  Wednesday, 8th October, at around 6:30 pm, two individuals, Mohammed Mukota and Richard Kitole, purporting to be lawyers, also known as “bush lawyers,” along with Mzee Boniface Watsyeri, attacked and beat up the LC1 Chairman of Shibanga village, Suliman Kibirige.

 

The incident occurred in Sibanga village, Mafudu sub-county, Sironko district. The suspects accused the chairman of misleading Mzee Watsyeri Boniface into selling his rock to Shandong Construction Company, a Chinese firm working on the Nalugugu-Budadiri-Namagumba road.

 

The chairman was kicked, punched, and rolled on the ground during the assault. After the incident, he reported the matter to Sironko Central Police Station (CPS), where a case of assault was opened. The chairman was given a medical form for examination.

 

The District Police Commander (DPC) of Sironko, SP Muzoora Frank, confirmed the incident and stated that investigations are underway saying once the file is ready, the suspects will be arrested and produced in court for prosecution.

 

Assaults are punishable by imprisonment for up to two years or a fine, or both, depending on the severity of the offense.
