The Tororo Municipal Council Deputy Town Clerk, Okoth R. Kitong, has committed to rejuvenate the operations of Tororo Municipal Development Forum (MDF) as an important body in enhancing good governance.
Speaking during the second MDF Annual General Meeting held on Wednesday 8th October, 2025 at the Mayor’s Parlor, the Deputy Town Clerk stressed the importance of MDF in monitoring of government programs arguing that their role cannot be easily ignored.
He regretted that for a while, the MDF has been dysfunctional hence pledged full technical support in ensuring that the Forum gets back to its full operations.
Kitong revealed that to move the Municipality to the greater heights, there is need to empower the MDF members and this will start with issuing them appointment letters later this week.
“The position of MDF cannot be underrated because it’s a policy matter and it’s difficult for the Municipality to run without it,” said Kitong
He further charged the team to ignore the previous challenges and focus their energies to the development of the Municipality which is soon becoming a City.
The MDF president, Peter Ekikina, applauded the Deputy Town Clerk for being part of their meeting saying it has opened a new page for the Municipality.
He meanwhile asked the town clerk to mobilize technical officers to be part of the MDF meetings so that the Forum can be updated on the ongoing developments within the Municipality so as to inform the public about these developments.
He also asked the Town Clerk to set an independent budget that will help to support the activities of the Forum including monitoring of key government installations.
The coordinator of MDF, Michael Opella, thanked the MDF members for their resilience despite the small budget being allocated to the entity.
Among the key issues discussed in the meeting included a call for the forum members who are currently in active politics to resign as per the forum regulations.
The members also resolved to foster fruitful cooperation that will see the Municipality grow to greater heights.
In response to the involvement of technical officers in MDF activities, the deputy clerk promised to rally all officers mainly heads of departments to actively participate in MDF activities.
In her part, the Tororo Municipality Deputy Mayor, Beatrice Achola equally pledged total support to the MDF activities aware of its pivotal roles towards steering the development of the municipality.
