SOROTI CITY
State Minister for Works and Transport and Amuria County MP, Hon. Musa Francis Ecweru, has urged the people of Teso to unite and offer President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni the biggest and most enthusiastic welcome as he kicks off his campaign trail in the sub-region.
Speaking during a press briefing held this morning at May7 Hotel in Soroti City, Ecweru said the President has registered overwhelming support in regions he has so far visited — starting from Luweero where he launched his campaigns, then West Nile whose turnout he described as doubled, followed by Lango which has traditionally been a UPC stronghold but showed what he termed as “massive support.”
He added that Karamoja’s warm hospitality set a high bar, and now it is Teso’s turn to lead by example.
“Regardless of our political differences, we must first stand together as Teso and warmly welcome the President.
He is our common denominator,” Ecweru emphasized. “After that, everyone can go ahead and campaign for themselves and the president”
President Museveni will begin his Teso trail tomorrow, October 30th, in Kapelebyong. On October 31st, he will proceed to Kalaki and Kaberamaido.
On November 1st, he will trail through Katakwi before addressing a rally in Amuria District at 2pm, home to both Minister Ecweru and Gen. Jeje Odongo, the MP for Orungo County.
He will then head to Kumi on November 2nd and conclude on November 3rd in Soroti City.
Ecweru encouraged Teso voters to re-elect President Museveni for “continuous and durable peace” and for deeper industrial development.
He pointed out that Soroti Industrial Park currently has only one juice factory which needs expansion to absorb more of Teso’s abundant oranges.
He also revealed that Amuria District has land in Asamuk-Dokolo which leaders want the President to support transforming into an industrial park.
This would be able to create jobs for the youths in the area would intern work while returning home.
Ecweru also extended appreciation to the people of Amuria who stood by him during his nomination — many emotionally celebrating after rumors earlier suggested he would not be cleared.
Despite being the NRM District Chairperson, Ecweru is contesting as an independent candidate after disputing the NRM primary election results — a move the party secretariat opposes.
He said he has delegated district NRM administrative duties to his Vice Chairperson, Mr. Okello, while he focuses on dual campaigning for President Museveni and himself as he seeks to return to the 12th parliament.
