NAMISINDWA
A heated dispute has erupted between the office of the Resident District Commissioner (RDC) Namisindwa and the Namisindwa District Engineering Department over the Skiya Moto-Tsekululu road project.
The 10-kilometer road connects several sub-counties, including Tsekululu, Buwabwala, Mukoto, and Luwa Town Council.
Engineer Victor Mafumo, the Namisindwa District Roads Inspector, accuses Rogers Walyama and Bosco Nabongo, Assistant RDCs, of inciting the community to hold demonstrations and reject the road repairs over unknown reasons.
Mafumo explains that the road is currently under repair, but the ongoing rains have hindered their progress, particularly due to the inability of marrum trucks to access the area.
He expressed disappointment that the RDCs are inciting the public instead of supporting the department in explaining the cause of the delay.
Mafumo also accused the two RDCs of consistently obstructing government projects in the district for personal gain, alleging that they are more interested in weakening the district leadership.
However, in response, Nabongo today, Thursday, 30th October, stated that the works were supposed to be completed in the last financial year (2024/25), and wonders why the project remains incomplete.
Nabongo claimed that the road has become impassable due to the poor workmanship, with marrum poured by the district engineer failing to spread properly.
He added that the office of the RDC is investigating the matter and will take action if it finds that the 220 million shillings meant for the road repair was misused.
Attempts to get a comment from Walyama were unsuccessful, as he referred our reporter to his boss, RDC Elijah Madoi, who did not answer repeated calls.
