A 48-year-old mandazi seller, Joram Dewa, has been arrested in connection with the alleged rape of a woman in Wanyange Lake, Jinja district. The incident occurred on November 4, around 9:00 PM, near the railway line in Budhumbuli-Bugembe, Jinja City.
According to police reports, Dewa approached the victim, threatened to kill her if she refused to sleep with him, and allegedly committed the unlawful sexual act. The victim, whose identity is being withheld, reported the incident at Kakira Main Police Station, leading to Dewa’s arrest.
Dewa has been charged and detained at the police station, and investigations are ongoing. He has been medically examined and is of sound mind, confessing to be aware of his actions.
James Mubi the Kiira Regional Police spokesperson, says data police Command is working to safeguard victims of gender-based violence and violence against children, with a team providing support and counseling to the victim.
