KAPELEBYONG
In a significant move towards enhancing rural accessibility and supporting economic activities, Shs443 million has been allocated for the construction of 15kms Obalanga- Amare-Ocongoda road at Shs235 million and 16kms Obalanga-Oditel Road at Shs208 million roads in Kapelebyong District.
The Shs443 million is part of the mechanized road grant, the one billion shillings sent to the local government for road works.
The two roads were selected due to their status as roads facing rural accessibility challenges.
The project comes at a strategic time, following the recent floods that submerged the roads in Kapelebyong district.
Emmanuel Opio, communications Officer in Kapelebyong District Local Government expressed gratitude to the government, particularly for improving the connectivity of the roads.
Opio also praised the tireless support provided by the government for the development of infrastructure in Kapelebyong District, emphasizing the importance of improvement of road accessibility among the community.
The commissioning ceremony held on Monday 10th November, 2025 concluded with Opio expressing gratitude to the technical team of the Ministry of Works and Transport for their efforts in making the road network accessible.
Torrential rains are currently being experienced in most parts of the Teso region. For the last three months, residents of Kapelebyong have been walking through flooded roads to access social services. The torrential rains submerged the road network that connects locals to schools and hospitals.
Augustine Ojomi, assistant RDC Kapelebyong who presided over the commissioning of the road works appealed to the district contractor assigned to the project to adhere to contract designs, specifications, and instructions issued by supervisors.
Furthermore, the contractor was encouraged to prioritize local employment opportunities and consider environmental, gender, HIV/AIDS, occupational health and safety, as well as the needs of people with disabilities and the elderly.
