MBALE CITY
Mbale City is going to host the National Cross Country Championships on Saturday,15th November, 2025 with Cheptegei, Kiplimo among 1,000 Athletes expected to Grace the Historic Cross Country Championship in Mbale.
The event is going to take place at the Mbale Golf Course located at Industrial City Division in Mbale City and is expected to attract over 1,000 athletes from across the country.
This marks the first time the prestigious championship moves from Tororo to Mbale, giving fans in the Bugisu region a golden opportunity to witness elite runners compete for national glory.
The event will also serve as a selection trial for Uganda’s team to the 2026 World Cross Country Championships in the USA.
Marry Watuwa Imalingat, a delegate representing Mbale District to Uganda Athletics Federation described it to our reporter on Thursday as a great opportunity for the people of Mbale to host a national event of this magnitude.
According to Watuwa, the whole country will be in Mbale City, adding that this will come with many benefits to people of Mbale city.
Watuwa urged school heads to bring their students to watch the races in order to be inspired to join the sport and called on local residents to turn up in large numbers to enjoy the event.
She emphasized that a strong community presence could help ensure the cross country championship remains in Mbale in the coming years.
The event will also see individual and team winners in both categories – U20 men/women and seniors men/women – go home with a cash package totaling to over 6 million shillings.
Cassim Namugali, the Mbale City Mayor urged parents to always promote their children talents by encouraging them to be involved in sports activities from childhood.
