A 25-year-old man has been arrested in Namisindwa district for allegedly setting fire to his father-in-law’s house and destroying crops over a domestic dispute.
The suspect identified as Elijah Mataya and a resident of Namungiri village, Buwanzala parish in Bumbo Sub County in Namisindwa district was arrested today, Friday, 14th November, 2025.
The incident occurred Friday early morning after Mataya’s wife, Milika Nabuso, escaped to her father’s home following a misunderstanding.
At 4am, Mataya went and knocked on the door of his father in law to open and give him back his wife but the Father-In law refused.
According to Simon Wefunya, an area resident, when family members refused to open the door, Mataya decided to set fire on the house and cut down all his onions, coffee and bananas among others.
He adds that no one got injured because all people who inside opened the door and escaped but all property inside was burnt into ash.
The father in law reported the matter to the area LC1 Chairman, Museveni Nabufu, who arrested Mataya and by press time he was writing a letter to hand him over to the Bumbo Police Post for formal charges.
