The Ministry of Works and Transport has sealed off a collapsing road section along Karuma-Kamdini Highway causing traffic diversions.
According to the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Works and Transport, Bageya Waiswa’s press statement dated 16th November, 2025, the section that has been, ‘hoarded off” is approximately 1 Km from Karuma-Olwiyo/ Pakwach junction from Kampala side.
The temporary measure has been necessitated by the deteriorating state of the road with half of the carriageway affected, ultimately rendering the section unsafe to all traffic.
“The failure continues to widen due to the persistent heavy rains impacting the embankment,” says Bageya.
He says that for public safety, the section is now sealed as the Ministry mobilizes resources for emergency restoration works and warns motorists to avoid the section like a plague.
Consequently all vehicles are to divert at the Karuma- Pakwach junction where there is URA Check point, proceed to Olwiyo Trading Centre, then turn right and continue through Anaka to Gulu and vice versa.
