A 38-year-old woman, Irene Mukimba, was mistakenly lynched by a mob in Kalaiti village, Tororo district, on Sunday, 23rd November, 2025..
Mukimba, a resident of Bunandele village, Namisindwa district, was suspected of theft while carrying cassava in the neighboring Kalaite sub county.
According to eyewitnesses, Mukimba had been mentally ill and had crossed into Tororo district with the cassava. The locals, unaware of her condition, attacked and killed her.
Local leaders condemned the incident, citing the dangers of mob justice. The LC1 Vice Chairperson of Bunandele village, Robert Buke, described Mukimba as a dedicated committee member and secretary for finance before her illness.
The LC3 Chairperson of Namboko sub county, Nicholas Kituno, confirmed the incident and stated that the body had been taken for postmortem by Tororo police.
One suspect, Peter Arwa, is currently on the run after leading the team that lynched Mukimba.
