Police has confirmed the identity of a young girl whose decomposing body was discovered in Musaale Swamp in Namulaba Village, Kyampisi Subcounty, Nagalama four days after her disappearance.

According to SP Rachael Kawala, the KMP Police spokesperson, after the exhumation of the body that had been buried at Kayunga Mortuary, police extracted DNA samples and dsent them to Forensics Headquarters in Naguru.

Kawala in her statement issued today, Tuesday, 25th November, 2025 says the results have come out positive confirming that the body is of Aneza Merisa, a student at Naalya SS, Lugazi Campus.

Aneza was reported missing by her mother,  Kamuganga Sarah, on 6th November 2025 at Wandegeya Police Station

On 10th November 2025, a decomposing body was recovered from Musaale Swamp in Namulaba Village, Kyampisi Subcounty, under Nagalama Police Station. The body was dressed in a navy-blue student skirt labeled “Nanyonga VII,” suggesting that the victim may have been a student.

Due to the body’s advanced state of decomposition, it was buried by mortuary staff in Kayunga. However, as the investigation progressed, police sought and obtained a court order to exhume the body for proper identification.

“The results have since returned positive, confirming that the body recovered in Nagalama is that of the missing juvenile, Aneza Merisa,” says Kawala.

She adds that with this confirmation, police is now treating the case as a murder investigation.

“Detectives are following leads to establish the circumstances under which Aneza was killed and her body dumped in the swamp,” she says adding that the body was handed over to the relatives for burial on Saturday, 22nd November.
