MBALE DISTRICT
The Mbale district local government has received 3.6 billion shillings to support farmers under the Uganda Climate Smart Agriculture Transformation project.
This was revealed by George Wanakina, the Mbale district production officer in an exclusive interview with this reporter on Friday, 5th December, 2025.
Wanakina says the funds will be allocated groups of coffee farmers and beekeepers in various sub-counties.
He adds that part of the money will be used to repair feeder roads, enabling farmers to transport their products to market areas.
Wanakina stated that six groups of farmers from ten sub-counties, including Busano, Wanale, and Bufumbo, have been identified to benefit from the project.
Muhamed Mafabi, the LC5 Chairperson of Mbale district, said the funds were released by the Ministry of Agriculture, Animal Husbandry, and Fisheries in the 2025/26 financial year.
He says the project is expected to run for six years, with potential additional funding in subsequent years.
Mafabi emphasized that the government aims to lift people out of poverty and encourages residents to form groups to benefit from the program.
Peter Welikhe and Sam Wambete all coffee Farmers from Busano sub county who are going to benefit from this program expressed their happiness saying this is going to make them come out of poverty quickly.
They say they have been carrying out agriculture but with little capital.
