Police have arrested more senior NRM leaders in connection with the party’s mobilisation funds scandal, as investigations intensify in Namisindwa District.

By Thursday morning, 18th December, 2025, six senior party officials were being held at Namisindwa Central Police Station (CPS). Those in custody include District NRM Vice Chairperson Charles Nasimolo, Finance Secretary Cyrus Kimaku, General Secretary Peter Mukisa, and the Sub-county Chairpersons for Bupoto (Peter Wakayiya) and Namisindwa Town Council (Sharif Nakhabala).

Security agencies are still searching for NRM chairpersons from the affected areas of Mukhuyu Sub-county, Lwakhakha Town Council, and Bumbo Sub-county.

Speaking on the matter, Amb. Simon Mulongo, the Deputy Regional Head for Bugisu in charge of NRM grassroots mobilisation parish conferences, said no one involved will be spared. He emphasized that funds meant for mobilisation must reach the intended beneficiaries, as they are transport refunds. He also urged both supporters and the opposition not to blame party flag bearers, noting that their role is limited to canvassing for votes.

Meanwhile, Namisindwa Resident District Commissioner (RDC) Elijah Madoi said investigations are progressing well, adding that millions of shillings have already been recovered. He confirmed that the recovered funds have been sanctioned to clear arrears in Bupoto Sub-county, Namisindwa Town Council, and Namabya, while efforts continue to recover more money for Lwakhakha Town Council, Bumbo Sub-county, and Mukhuyu Sub-county.

Aramazan Wabuko says Shs31M have been recovered out of Shs58M. He says they are recovering the balance to pay Mukhuyu, Bumbo and Lwakhakha TC. He called on all party leaders to be honest and mobilise for all party flagbearers right from the President to LC1.
