MBALE CITY
The National Resistance Movement (NRM) party released motorcycles and 8 million shillings to each district NRM chairperson for fuel for mobilization efforts.
However, in the Eastern Region, only 30 out of 42 youth leaders received the funds and motorcycles, sparking outrage.
At a press conference at Courts View Hotel in Mbale City this Friday afternoon, 9th January, 2026, youth leaders expressed their frustration.
Ibrahim Ngobi, Jinja City Youth Chairperson, accused Collins Tanga Odoi, the National Youth Chairperson, of sidelining youth leaders who didn’t support him during his election.
Pius Mude, Mbale City Youth NRM Chairperson, stated that the party’s poor performance in Mbale City elections was a concern, and they had planned to increase mobilization efforts using these motorcycles.
Mike Khayedekhe, Mbale District Youth Chairperson, urged President Museveni, NRM National Chairman, to intervene before the situation negatively impacts the party’s 2026 general election prospects.
However, Saidi Shema, NRM Youth League National Publicity Secretary when contacted claimed all districts received 8 million shillings and motorcycles for mobilization, stating that the motorcycles weren’t exclusively for youth district chairpersons but for any effective mobilizer.
He says the motorcycles were not given to youth leaders who support Tanga as alleged but were given to any youth league district leader who is a good mobiliser.
Collins Tanga was unreachable for a comment by the time of filing this story.
