The Katakwi Distrct LCV Geoffrey Omolo has retained the LCV Chairperson seat for the second term after beating his closest rival, Martine Odaka Omeedo.
The tight race between Geoffrey Omolo, the NRM candidate and Martine Odaka Omeedo, Independent was finally declared at 6: 39 am on Friday morning by Katakwi District Returning Officer Mr. Stephen Makubya with Omolo securing the second term in officer with victory of 26, 873 voters against his close rival who garnered 24, 531 votes a margin of 2,342 votes.
The results were officially announced by the Katakwi District Returning Officer, Stephen Makubuya, following the conclusion of polling and tallying exercises conducted across the 255 polling stations in Katakwi District with 102, 648 registered voters.
The total number of valid votes casted for candidates were 51, 404 votes while the total number of ballot papers counted were 51, 861 votes, invalid or rejected were 457 and spoiled ballots were 80.
In his brief address to jubilant supporters, Geoffrey Omolo thanked voters for their trust and pledged to fight corruption, equally service delivery for all residents, regardless of political affiliation.
Meanwhile, various contenders for LCV district councilors in Katakwi’s twenty sub counties were declared; in Katakwi subcounty, Gilbert Akwang NRM was declared winner after polling 1,550 votes, Joseph Onyolo Democratic Party received 635 votes, David Otworot independent received 557 votes, Elungat Jimmy received 705 votes, and Ebitu Simon, Otim Patrick FDC came last with 192.
Martin Ediedu, the NRM candidate for Katakwi sub county, won with 541 votes, followed by Simon Onyait, an independent, who received 447 votes, and Isadat Joseph, an independent, and Lenard Omoding, who received the same number of votes (268 votes).
In another declaration for female district councilors, Angella Felisia NRM received 631 votes, defeating three others: Aisha Akiteng (523 votes), Irene Alungat Independent, and Immaculate Amongin (92 votes).
In the Okulonyo subcounty, Inaku Justine of the NRM won with 1,385 votes, defeating Jane Akaro (318 votes) and Mary Ikiror (86 votes). While for male councilors, Gabriel Omuge NRM was declared the winner with 1,205 votes, followed by Julius Ogwel independent with 519 votes, Pual Omoding with 32 votes, and Richard Odeke of NUP with 24 votes.
In Ngariam sub county for male councilors Emmanuel Otin Ojirot won with 1,919 votes while two others Silver Okwi independent and Otim Emmanuel got 304 and 202 votes respectively.
In Okore sub county Simon Peter Akol NRM was declared unopposed while for female councilor for Ngariam and Okore sub counties Jane Christine Adeke independent won with 1,919 votes followed by Margaret Imalingat NRM who got 1,602 votes and Joyce Alaso Ilakas FDC who got 1,025.
For Guyagua sub county male councilors Adudulai Okiror won with 1,307 votes, followed by Isaac Cumar who got 1,164 votes and Joseph Ejoku got 88 votes. While for female councilors Tukei Majeri independent candidate won with 1,307 votes beating her close rival Stella Aleyo NRM who secured 1,270 votes.
In Kapujan Sub County female Josephine Ajulong won with 2, 616 votes defeating Ben Margate Atim who got 2, 107 votes while for male councilors Bosco Alaibu Okiror Katakwi Speaker won with 2, 459 votes defeating four others Amuger Joshua who got 2,149 votes Joseph Ojon who got 63 votes, Simon peter Aleper who got 24 votes and Sepas Aule who got 20 votes.
In Akoboi sub county and Getom for female Josephine Akulo independent won with 3, 050 votes beating Irene Among of NRM who got 2, 854 votes and Hellen Beatrice Emodu Independent who got 1, 363 votes. While for male councilors Gabriel Okure NRM won with 1, 778 votes defeating Yoweri Aboket of UPC who got 872 votes and Quirino Ekatu independent who got 569 votes.
In Magoro Sub County male councilors Stephen Ebu won with 481 votes beating Patrick Emongot who got 352 votes while for female councilors for Magoro town council and Magoro sub county Grace Asio NRM won with 2, 343 votes beating Incumbent Kavin Anyuu independent who got 1, 683 votes and Scovia Akwakol DP who got 658 votes.
In Angodingod sub county male councilor James Olupot NRM won with 1,013 votes beating three others Peter Okello independent who got 362 votes, Francis Iyeset independent who got 202 votes and Pius Angonsiai independent got 63 votes. While for female councilors Oliver Alungat NRM won with 936 votes defeating incumbent Angella Akengo who secured 716 votes.
In Usuk town council, female an independent won with 439 votes, challenging Flavia Asekenye of NRM, who garnered 356 votes, and Ivan Ocen of NUP, who received 140 votes. Female Jane Frances Imenyuk won with 2,664 votes, defeating Scovia Imanyuk, who received 1,318 votes. In Usuk sub county, male Rapheal Mark Ojakal of FDC won with 1,703 votes, defeating ICU advisor Simon Peter Ojaman independent, who got 1,040 votes, and Bosco Okiror of NRM, who received 310 votes.
In Toroma sub county male with four candidates David Livingstone Ilima of NUP won with 293 votes challenging John Akileng of NRM who garnered 286 votes, Julius Odeke independent got 95 votes and George William Amorokin got 31 votes. While for the female councilors representing Toroma and town council Jamila Kiyai of NRM secured victory with 2,194 votes beating Florence Kulume independent candidate who got 1,396 votes.
Stephen Makubuya, the district returning officer Katakwi electoral area, remarked that the election was free, fair, and peaceful.
